A Letter from our President and CEO

Dear Neighbors,

Having led Henry Ford Allegiance Health as President and CEO for nearly 25 years, I can truly say 2018 has been a remarkable year. As we celebrated our 100th Anniversary of service to this community, I felt immense pride in a number of achievements that could only have happened through the talent and dedication of thousands of people working together—and with the loyalty and support of our patients and the communities we serve.

This was a year of milestones. The opening of our new, three-story hospital tower brought to fruition a long-time goal of providing every patient with a private room. Our Cardiac Surgery program celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2018, completing 1,680 open-heart procedures since its inception. At the same time, our interventional cardiologists began training with a pioneering team from Henry Ford in Detroit to perform new minimally invasive procedures that will be life-saving for those who are not candidates for open surgery, due to age, frailty or extensive heart damage.

We also made strides in teaching others through electronic simulation. With the May opening of the Henry Ford Allegiance Center for Health Innovation & Education, we introduced our new Simulation Laboratory (Sim Lab), which is designed to replicate real inpatient and outpatient settings. Lifelike mannequins, programmed with human responses, provide learners with the broad-range experience of treating virtually every disease and condition without risk to patients. The Sim Lab is already honing the skills of our medical residents, as well as experienced physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, researchers, educators and first responders.

Having successfully transformed from a community hospital to a regional health system of outstanding achievement, we are now part of the nationally recognized Henry Ford Health System. We have created a culture of caring that is the firm foundation on which our future will be built, and we have continued to live our mission by staying true to our values. This distinguishing factor will continue to be our strength in the second century of Henry Ford Allegiance Health. You can rest assured your health is in very capable hands.

I hope you enjoy learning more about our recent improvements and future plans through the patient stories, photos and videos featured in this annual Report to the Community.

Yours in good health,

Georgia Fojtasek
